{"id":2206,"date":"2022-06-06T14:49:41","date_gmt":"2022-06-06T14:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.psmgt.org.uk\/us\/?p=2206"},"modified":"2022-07-14T14:34:07","modified_gmt":"2022-07-14T14:34:07","slug":"university-leaders-support-much-needed-flexible-learning-revolution-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.psmgt.org.uk\/us\/university-leaders-support-much-needed-flexible-learning-revolution-2\/","title":{"rendered":"UNIVERSITY LEADERS SUPPORT MUCH-NEEDED FLEXIBLE LEARNING REVOLUTION"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Far-reaching reform can positively transform learner opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Flexible forms of study must offer clear career paths for all learners<\/li>\n<li>Universities set to redesign courses and timetables<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>University leaders are backing reforms in England that would allow people to upskill and retrain through flexible higher education courses.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the UK Government\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/1056948\/CP_618_Lifelong_Loan_Entitlement_Consultation_print_version.pdf\">consultation<\/a>\u00a0on its plans for a lifelong loan entitlement (LLE) from 2025\u00a0\u2013\u00a0equivalent to four years of post-18 education in a lifetime\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Universities UK (UUK) says the reforms have the potential to unlock opportunities for learners and deliver on the UK\u2019s skills needs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-content-paragraph field--type-entity-reference-revisions field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--text paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-content field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>To maximise the benefits of\u00a0LLE\u00a0to society,\u00a0UUK\u00a0stresses that the new system must appeal to potential learners of all ages and have wide course eligibility reflecting the country\u2019s diverse future skills needs as well as current gaps. The response also highlights the importance of offering high quality information and advice on career progression for the new ways of studying to appeal to both school leavers and mature learners.<\/p>\n<p>University leaders are committed to redesigning courses, improving wellbeing support for flexible learners, and providing better careers advice so everyone can see how\u00a0upskilling\u00a0could progress their careers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-content-paragraph field--type-entity-reference-revisions field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--pull-quote-full-width paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"inner quote_box\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-content field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>We have long campaigned for adults of all ages to be able to access high-quality, flexible learning opportunities that fit around existing work or caring commitments. Universities are willing to pilot, innovate and collaborate with employers, colleges, and government so flexible learning delivers the biggest benefits to society and individuals. Removing the artificial divides between the two is key to smoothing the path for learners as they progress along their lifelong training and education trajectories. Rethinking course design and course eligibility opens the door to even greater diversification in the post-18 education sector.
